For patients with removable provisional or existing dentures,
follow the steps below to capture the oral data before scanning the PIM scan bodies.

1. Pre-Op Scan

  • At the start of scanning, ensure that the [Scan Mode] is set to Auto-Detection Mode or Model Mode.
  • Scanning must begin from the intaglio surface of the denture.
  • Scan the intaglio surface along with the border and part of the outer surface.
  • After that, follow the border and scan the artificial teeth of the denture.
  • Since only the buccal and part of the occlusal surfaces of the artificial teeth are used for occlusal alignment, there is no need to scan the lingual surfaces.

2. Opposing Scan

  • Following the basic scanning strategy, scan the full arch of the opposing.
  • At the start of scanning, ensure that the [Scan Mode] is set to Auto-Detection Mode or Intraoral Mode.

3. Occlusion Scan

- ย How To Get Occlusion Data For All-On-X Casesย 

Since edentulous patients have no teeth, a denture, provisional denture, or existing fixed bridge should be used to record the occlusal relationship.

- Preparation Before Occlusion Scanning:

  • Attach the removable denture that was scanned in the Pre-Op stage.

  • Before performing the occlusion scan, have the patient open their mouth and position the scanner on the buccal side.

  • Have the patient close into occlusion several times to check the centric bite position in advance.

  • Review the buccal surface data of both the maxilla and mandible before starting the occlusion scan.
    - If buccal data are insufficient or excess soft tissue is present, the occlusion may not align correctly.
    - If there are holes or missing data, perform additional scans.
    - Delete unnecessary soft-tissue data before proceeding with the occlusion scan.

- Full-Arch Occlusion Scan:

  • To obtain accurate occlusal data in the PIM Solution, full-arch occlusion must be scanned.

  • For full-arch occlusion scans, both the right and left posterior regions must be scanned.

  • Divide the right and left posterior regions and perform the occlusion scan for each side.

  • Scan 4 to 6 teeth starting from the terminal molar, excluding the wisdom tooth.

  • Move the scanner up and down while rotating, ensuring that both the teeth and surrounding gingiva are captured.

  • When the software displays a message indicating that occlusion alignment is complete, end the scan.
    - However, if the alignment is not yet accurate even after the message appears, continue scanning for an additional 2โ€“3 seconds before stopping.

4. Base Scan

  • At the start of scanning, ensure that the [Scan Mode] is set to Auto-Detection Mode or Edentulous Mode.
  • When entering the Base stage, the Pre-Op scan data is automatically copied.
  • As this stage involves scanning the edentulous with MUAs in place, make sure to delete the copied data before scanning.
  • When scanning the edentulous area, start by using the MUA locations as reference points.
  • Scan the edentulous region using a zigzag technique centered around the MUA reference points to capture the full arch data.
  • For the maxilla, continue scanning the palatal surface after acquiring the arch data.

5. Pre-Op & Base Data Allign

  • After completing the Pre-Op and Base scans, selecting the PIM Scan Body stage will display an alert indicating that the Pre-Op data and Base data are not matched.
  • Proceed to the manual matching step by selecting 'Confirm' on the alert or by using the 'Manual matching' tool in the Tool bar.

  • In the matching step, place three points on corresponding locations in both datasets to perform a 3-point alignment.
  • If the direction of the denture data differs from that of the Base data, making alignment difficult, use the 'Flip' tool to invert the denture data.
    Flipping the denture data aligns its orientation with the Base dataset, enabling more accurate manual matching.
