To scan with FREEDOM Air's PIM solution, you must first create a PIM project in DOFSync.
Create a PIM project by following the steps below.
After launching ScanApp i (Air) from DOFSync, follow the recommended workflow and complete the scans step by step.
Once scanning is finished, proceed to the 'Confirm' step to generate the data.

📌 Preparing And Attaching The PIM Scanbody
After completing the base scan, check the condition of the scanbodies and attach the appropriate PIM scanbody that matches the patient’s oral condition.
️⚠️Essential Checklist Before PIM Solution Scanning⚠️To PIM solution scan, the DOF PIM KIT is required. |
1. Check PIM KIT Before Scanning
- Check the PIM Guide:
Before scanning with the PIM solution, make sure the illumination extension lens inside the PIM guide is in good condition.
If there are any contaminants on the lens, clean it gently with a dry soft cloth.
- Check the PIM Scanbody:
The PIM solution captures the position of the scanbody and the placed MUA by recognizing the unique scanbody pattern.
To ensure accurate data acquisition, the scanbody pattern must remain intact without any damage.
Always check the condition of the scanbody before starting the scan.

2. PIM Scanbody Connection
|
Step1. Check MUA position |
1. Check the position of the MUA in the mouth, then select the scanbody type that suits each location. |
|
Step2. Attach the scanbody |
1. Place the scanbody on the MUA, making sure that no soft tissue or debris is trapped between them. 2. Use a hand driver to connect the scanbody to the MUA. 3. Tighten the screw with the hand driver until it no longer turns. |
|
Step3. Final fixation |
1. After hand-tightening, secure the scanbody with a torque wrench. 2. When using the torque wrench, apply torque within the range of 10–15 N·cm only. |
|
Step4. Verify fixation |
1. Check that the scanbody does not move after tightening. 2. Ensure there is no gap between the MUA and the scanbody. 3. For more accurate verification, it is recommended to confirm fixation with a periapical radiograph (PA). |
|
Step5. Scanbody cleaning and drying |
1. After attaching the scanbody, check whether it is contaminated with blood or debris. 2. If blood or foreign substances are present on the scanbody’s dedicated pattern(code), cleaning and drying must be performed before scanning. |
️⚠️Precautions When Connecting the PIM Scanbody⚠️
|
- Step1. Check MUA position:
1. Check the position of the MUA in the mouth, then select the scanbody type that suits each location.
- By default, use the SQ type.
- If needed, the L type can be used for the most posterior MUA position.
- Step2. Attach the scanbody
1. Place the scanbody on the MUA, making sure that no soft tissue or debris is trapped between them.
2. Use a hand driver to connect the scanbody to the MUA.
- Scanbody orientation: The flat surface of the scanbody should face forward.
3. Tighten the screw with the hand driver until it no longer turns.

- Step3. Final fixation:
1. After hand-tightening, secure the scanbody with a torque wrench.
2. When using the torque wrench, apply torque within the range of 10–15 N·cm only.
- Excessive force may damage the screw, MUA, or implant fixture.
- Step4. Verify fixation:
1. Check that the scanbody does not move after tightening.
2. Ensure there is no gap between the MUA and the scanbody.
3. For more accurate verification, it is recommended to confirm fixation with a periapical radiograph (PA).
- Step5. Scanbody cleaning and drying:
To ensure scanning accuracy, always check the scanbody for contamination before scanning.
1. Checking the scanbody condition: After attaching the scanbody, check its condition to ensure it is not contaminated with blood or debris.
2. Cleaning and drying the scanbody: If blood or debris is present on the dedicated pattern of the scanbody, cleaning and drying must be completed before scanning.
- Clean the dedicated pattern area of the scanbody using a 3-way syringe, water, or a cotton pellet moistened with alcohol.
- After cleaning, thoroughly dry any remaining saliva and cleaning fluid (water) in the oral cavity and on the scanbody.
